CHAPTER 3

Using Metamodels

We explained in Section 1.2.2 that, traditionally, three aspects have been identified as being relevant to methodologies (and, therefore, to metamodelling): process, product and people. Of these, people has been the most neglected as far as metamodelling is concerned, whilst product and process have received considerable attention from the metamodelling community, albeit often separately from one another rather than in an integrated way. This chapter focuses on how metamodels can be used to represent products in a software development effort as well as the process that is followed. An integrated view is given and the issue of model transformation is also considered.
