Successful nonprofit leaders, much like those occupying leadership positions in other sectors, possess some distinct but often interconnected abilities: leadership skills, managerial acumen, and technical or subject-matter expertise. In many ways these three components can serve as the “three-legged stool” of support for those leaders who are attempting to set directions, create alignment, and maintain commitment in their organizations and ultimately throughout the sector.
