Preface

This fourth edition of Media Law for Producers provides a general update to the prior editions. This edition also adds several new sample agreements and forms. The most significant change in the law since the publication of the third edition was the passage, in 1998, of the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, which extended the basic copyright term 20 years. The implications of this change are addressed in Chapter 4. On the technology front, the most significant development continues to be the increasing importance of the Internet as a development, distribution, and marketing medium.
