7 Nonlinear Elasticity
In this chapter we give a concise treatment of nonlinear elasticity, which includes both geometrical and material nonlinearities (finite deformations and nonlinear constitutive equations). This is done to illustrate the application of the general framework of nonlinear continuum mechanics developed in previous chapters and to give an introduction to important subject of rubber elasticity. A detailed coverage of linear elasticity is presented in Part III of the book.
7.1 Green Elasticity
Elastic deformation is a reversible process which does not cause any permanent change of internal structure of the material. Experiments indicate that there is no net work left in a material upon any closed cycle of elastic strain, i.e. ...
