Combining Multiple Motions

Overview

In all the chapters prior to this, the movements analyzed involved just one piece of scenery moving in a one-dimensional linear or rotational manner. While this covers the majority of effects, it does not cover them all. Treadmills, roll drops, and scissor lifts for instance, combine both linear and rotary motion into one effect. In these, part of the effect moves linearly, the stretcher pipe at the bottom of a roll drop for instance, and some part rotates, the roll tube that stores and unfurls the drop. Beyond just the movement of scenery, the machines that power the effects sometimes need to be included into the loading conditions for a move.
