16.2. Performing an Upgrade Migration

Before getting into the nuts and bolts of actually upgrading SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to MOSS 2007, you should realize (if you haven't already) that the only way to perform these exercises is to have a SharePoint Server 2003 environment already in place so that you can work through the actions required to upgrade it to SharePoint Server 2007. Since there are two basic paths (in-place and gradual), you will need to have either two separate 2003 environments or a single environment that you will upgrade and then restore from a backup to its original state and upgrade again using the second option.
