8.13. Using Server Core

One of the most important points to make when discussing file security is that when there are fewer OS components, there is less attack surface to be compromised.

Accordingly, Microsoft security practices strongly recommend that whenever there is a great concern regarding the security of a server, Server Core should be implemented if the environment allows for this type of installation.

This is because Server Core is a light, easily managed installation that still supports security features such as BitLocker and EFS. In the real world, when you're considering an extremely secure installation, remember that Server Core may very well be the best option.
