3.4. System Center Configuration Manager

The System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) is the replacement for Systems Management Server. SCCM is designed to allow you to easily assess, deploy, and update your clients, servers, and mobile devices.

SCCM is not a free product but instead is a server application like Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft Exchange. Additionally, it's a product you'll expect to find only in large enterprises.

Many of the basic capabilities of SCCM are available in free products such as Windows Deployment Services, Windows Server Update Services, or Group Policy objects. However, SCCM adds significant features that make it a popular choice for larger organizations that need the extra capabilities.
