2.5. Summary

When deploying servers, WDS can streamline the process for you and save you a significant amount of time. The network must have at least one DHCP server, DNS, and Active Directory Domain Services running to support WDS. A single WDS server can then be used to deploy both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows Server 2008 operating systems.

WDS can use a single boot image (for the initial boot of a server using the NIC) for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Install images can then be selected from the WDS server. Systems with 32-bit architecture require a 32-bit image, and systems with 64-bit architecture require a 64-bit image.
