- schema
The definition of all objects contained within a forest. Objects (such as users, computers, groups, and so on) are defined in the schema with specific attributes. Only objects contained within the schema can be created, and only attributes in the schema can be used to identify an object. Only one schema exists for an entire forest. The schema is typically modified during the lifetime of the forest to support additional objects and/or object attributes.
- Schema Master
One of five FSMO roles. The Schema Master holds the only writable copy of the schema. It ensures that if the schema is modified, it is modified in only one location. Only one Schema Master exists within the forest.
