I began this book with some trepidation after a long hiatus from any writing projects of this scale. My last book on SQL Server was a tremendous effort to complete with a new job and young children. I almost didn't undertake this project, but with the encouragement from family, friends and the editors at Wiley, I decided to give it another try and have enjoyed the process much more this time.
My wife, Tia, provided a great deal of encouragement and support, despite her own busy schedule. With work, a busy home life with three kids, and the move to a new house, she provided me with the resources, mostly time, to concentrate on delving into this new, more complex version of SQL Server.
