Many word problems involving relationships between given quantities can be solved using ratios. A ratio is a relationship between two quantities such as “2 to 1” that stays true even when both quantities are multiplied or divided by the same amount. Two or more ratios with the same relationship form a proportion. For example, the ratio “2 to 1” is equal to the ratio “6 to 3.” Therefore, Image is a proportion.
