Selecting a Help Compiler

When you create an HTML Help file by using Microsoft tools, you have two choices: HTML Help 1.3 and HTML Help 2.

As I write this, in mid-2002, the latest released version of HTML Help is HTML Help 1.3. This is the version that's installed with Visual Studio .NET, and it's the version that has been in use for some time now.

But there's another alternative that provides more modern-looking help. HTML Help 2 is in beta right now, and it should ship some time in 2003. This new version is readily available, and you might choose to work with it.
