Summary

Capturing a performance is a long and complex process. If you're new to motion tracking, it can be even more daunting. Like most things, the more you do it, the more you understand it, ultimately leading to a more refined process. Here are a few suggestions that can improve your system.

  • Do a quick capture of your actor prior to building your character. You only need two photographs of the actor in the motion capture suit. From these, you can construct a 3D skeleton. You can then use that skeleton for the proportions of your character.
  • Add additional markers to limbs. You can use four markers around each knuckle, elbow, wrist, knee, and ankle.
  • Use different colored markers on the fingers to help distinguish them.
