FBX

The FBX file format has a long history of exchanging hands. It's ironic, because it's labeled as a universal data-exchange format. The name is from its original owner, Filmbox. After numerous ups and downs, Filmbox eventually became MotionBuilder, now owned by Autodesk. Its current version is now supported by Maya, 3D Studio Max, Softimage, LightWave, and others, including a QuickTime format.
