Project: Roughing in the Lighting

In Chapter 3, 1-, 2-, and 3-point lighting schemes were discussed. When lighting a scene set in a sunlit exterior, 2-point lighting is appropriate. In such a scenario, the sun serves as a strong key, and the net bounced light from the ground serves as a fill. You can follow these steps to place a key and fill light:

  1. Create a directional light. Rename the light Key. Rotate the light so it points down and roughly forms a 45-degree angle between the light icon and the XZ grid plane. The position of the directional light icon does not affect the lighting. You can also scale up the light icon to make it easier to manipulate.
