Project: Deactivating Shadows

By default, all surfaces within Maya cast and receive shadows. However, you can change this behavior per surface to help improve the results of a render. Each surface carries a Casts Shadows and a Receive Shadows attribute, which you can find in the Render Stats section of the surface shape node Attribute Editor tab.

By default, the surface shape node receives an Attribute Editor tab directly to the right of the surface transform node. By default, shape nodes carry the Shape suffix. For example, Face is the transform node, and FaceShape is the shape node.
