What are Multi-Passes?

Multi-passes are especially interesting; they automatically save the rendered image as a multiplicity of layers. Every layer is reserved as an important portion of the total result of an image. There are, for example, layers that just contain radiosity information or an image's shadow.

This makes it very easy to undertake even significant changes to individual elements of an image after the fact. Thus you can, without a problem, subsequently emphasize the caustics even more or change the color of the light source, to name just two examples. The time-consuming rerendering of an image is unnecessary and is replaced by work in “real-time,” perhaps in an image-editing program.
