2. ESX and ESXi Hosts

ESX and ESXi are the two versions of the hypervisor that you have to choose from in vSphere. At their core they are identical, as they both use the exact same VMkernel, but their management consoles are distinctly different. Each version has its pros and cons, and for many users it comes down to personal preference when choosing between the two.
