15.6. Z-Transform

Similar to Laplace Transform which used for analysis of continuous-time signals and LTI systems, z-transform is used for analysis of discrete-time signals and LTI systems.

The discrete-time Fourier Transform of discrete-time signals and LTI systems results in frequency domain representation. However, in many cases, convergence of discrete-time Fourier Transform does not exist thus frequency-domain characterization of such cases cannot be made. Hence, the complex sinusoidal representation provided by discrete-time Fourier Transform is generalized and is represented in terms of complex exponential signals, called z-transform.
