13.9. Ann Based Control

The feedback control has been the basis for the development of simple automatic control systems. Feedback control systems are inherently simple to comprehend and implement but are not very effective in compensating plant parameter variations and changes in the environment. The advent of ANNs and fuzzy logic theory has resulted in possible implementation of better and more efficient control. They do not require a priori mathematical model of the plant and have inherent ability to adapt to the changing environment and the plant dynamics, unlike conventional methods.
