The open-loop transfer function of a unity feedback control system can be expressed in two forms:

  1. Time constant form.

  2. Pole–zero form.

For generalized transfer functions, these can be expressed as follows:

  1. Time constant form

    where Tzi (i varies from 1 to k) and Tpj (j varies from 1 to l) are the system time constants

  2. Pole–zero form

    where zi (‘i’ varies from 1 to k) and pj (j varies from 1 to l), represent zeros and poles of the transfer function.
