Sustainable and healthy building practice in Germany

Abstract
For good reasons, architects in all parts of the world have an increasing awareness of the need for sustainable building materials. In Germany, as in other places, many architects work against the backdrop of a long history of environmental problems and unhealthy building materials affecting indoor air conditions. This case study reviews sustainable and healthy architectural practice in Germany. Using two specific houses, it investigates the challenges and opportunities for integration of sustainable and healthy architectural practices under the existing codes and labeling systems.
