Tribological response of materials during sliding against various surface textures

Abstract:

Surface texture plays an important role during sliding. In this investigation, the tribological response of materials with varying hardness and crystal structure during sliding against a relatively harder material of different surface textures was studied. It was found that the coefficient of friction is controlled by the surface texture of the harder mating surfaces.
