Installing, Using, and Administering Remote Desktop Services
Remote Desktop Services (RDS)—formerly known as Terminal Services—is a role in Windows 2012 R2 that allows users to connect to session-based desktops, applications, and virtual desktops.
Applications that run on the RD Session Host server are called RDS RemoteApp applications. From the end-user perspective, these applications look and feel as though they are running on their local system. The user’s keystrokes and mouse movements are sent to the server. Images are sent back to the user’s system. Even thin clients can easily run sophisticated applications with ease, although RDS RemoteApps are most commonly run on regular desktop systems.
