In a VMware vSphere environment, the ESX/ESXi hosts control virtual machine access to physical resources like RAM and CPU. To effectively manage and scale VMware vSphere, administrators must understand how to allocate memory and CPU resources to virtual machines, including how to use reservations, limits, and shares. Reservations provide guarantees to resources, limits provide a cap on resource usage, and shares help adjust the allocation of resources in a constrained environment.
