"Hello world!" to UnrealScript

Now that we have all of the things required to write our code, it is time for us to write our first program! Since it was first written 40 years ago, it has been a tradition for novice programmers to write a function that displays "Hello world" on the screen. Let's do that now!

Engage Thrusters

Before we can write something to the screen though, we need to set up our packages so that Unreal will recognize what code we want to use in our project.

  1. Back in the UnrealScript IDE, go to the Solution Explorer window on the right-hand side of the screen. Under the UDKConfigProject1 section, locate the DefaultEngine.ini file and double-click on it to open the file. Hit Ctrl + F to go to the Find window and search for [UnrealEd.EditorEngine] ...
