Summary

In this chapter, you learned what information is available to NSE and how to work with this data to achieve different tasks with Nmap. You also learned how the main NSE API works and what the structures of scripts and libraries are like. We covered the process of developing new NSE libraries in C and Lua. Now you should have all of the knowledge in Lua and the inner workings of NSE required to start writing your own scripts and libraries.

The next chapter will cover the version detection capabilities of NSE, and we will start writing our own version detection scripts.
