Chapter . Great Feedback Skills

Feedback is something we all have the opportunity to engage in, possibly on a daily basis. But why do some people have negative reactions to this common form of information exchange? The reasons vary. Most people who give feedback may not even be aware that they have done so. Consider the following common situations and see if you have done anything similar:

  • thanked your manager for having the confidence to assign a major project to you

  • told your spouse you appreciate him picking you up at the train station

  • reminded your teenager that curfew is 10:00 p.m., not 10:30 p.m., as she seems to think

  • told a co-worker that his failure to complete his portion of a report has resulted in extra hours of work for you.
