Inventory and Software Metering

Out of all of the capabilities of Configuration Manager 2012, inventory is still considered a core feature; it is one that, by itself, has made Configuration Manager and its predecessors a very useful product since the early days of SMS 1.0.

Configuration Manager has the ability to inventory the hardware and software in client computers. Hardware inventory can gather information from your systems such as the processor, computer manufacturer, and amount of installed memory. Software inventory can gather lists of file types and their versions installed on your computers.
