Puppet agent

The Puppet agent is on every node, and the log for the Puppet agent is stored locally on that node. This is the only log file that we work with that does not use logback, but uses system messaging, instead. The Puppet agent logs to the syslog of the operating system it runs on. Each operating system uses a different location, as follows:

  • Linux: /var/log/messages
  • macOS X: /var/log/system.log
  • Solaris: /var/adm/messages
  • Windows: Event Viewer

The information logged here is the same information that is output during a Puppet run. You can check on successful and failed resources being applied to the node in this log file.
