Not every organization will need to create a connector. Microsoft has some guidelines for when connectors will need to be made:
- You have Exchange Online only for the email protection services; your actual email is hosted on-premise.
- You have some mailboxes in Exchange Online and some on-premise. You might be better served by a hybrid deployment than a connector, but there are circumstances where a connector could be helpful.
- You need to be able to send email from multifunction devices (printers, scanners, fax machines) or applications.
- You want to implement tight security for email exchanged with a partner organization.
