Text-to-speech

Microsoft's text-to-speech capability in Skype for Business isn't too shabby. The automated voice is reasonably good, though you can still tell it's a computer. Wouldn't it be just awesome if we could have Cortana answer our phones for us?

We were able to tweak minor issues (such as mispronounced words and cadence) simply by altering spelling and punctuation. Here are some annotated examples:

  • help@liquidmercurysolutions.com: Help at liquid mercury solutions dot com (slow down!)
  • Windows Azure: Windows as-ur (otherwise pronounced: As you're)
  • Chimera: Chai-mera (otherwise pronounced: She-mera)
  • Kraken: Crackin (otherwise pronounced: Cray Ken)
