One of the most exciting civic movements that align with Big Data and Machine Learning is Open Data. Although there is not as much buzz around it, it's a very exciting and important transformation in data science. The premise of open data is that local, state, and national governments will become much more accountable and efficient if they expose the public data that they currently maintain in a RESTful format.
