10.1. What Is Remote Desktop Services?

Remote Desktop Services in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 provides an execution environment wherein multiple distributed users can access a Windows desktop environment or application that is running on a centralized server or group of servers. Each user's desktop session or application utilizes the shared CPU and memory of the server. Then, using the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), the graphical output of that session is transferred to the user's client machine. The benefits of utilizing this technology are numerous:
