10.3. What's New in Remote Desktop Services?

Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2008 R2 offers many new features as well as enhancements to features that existed in previous versions. And in keeping with the consistency of the name change from Terminal Services to Remote Desktop Services, Microsoft also changed the name of a few features:

  • TS Gateway became RD Gateway

  • TS Web Access became RD Web Access

  • TS Session Broker became RD Connection Broker

  • TS Licensing became RD Licensing

  • TS RemoteApp became RemoteApp

Here are some of the new features of Remote Desktop Services:

  • Remote Desktop (RD) Virtualization

  • RD Gateway improvements

  • RDS Provider for Windows PowerShell

  • Enhanced functionality when using Microsoft Windows 7
