13.1. Load Balancing and High Availability

Load balancing provides a mechanism for IT professionals to somewhat evenly distribute a data processing workload across two or more computing devices. In the case of Remote Desktop Services (RDS), the workload we are distributing is the user application set that will be executing on an RD Session Host server. High Availability (HA) is the capability of a specific data processing workload to maintain a continuous functional state. This can be achieved through a combination of technologies and depends on where the workload needs the HA functionality.
