Chapter 2. Installing, Configuring, and Managing the Hyper-V Host

When dealing with server virtualization, you have two different environments to install, configure, and manage. You first have to build the host environment. Once that is accomplished, the virtual machines can be built. Building your server virtualization on Microsoft's Hyper-V platform provides a number of similarities between the physical and virtual setup, because the host often uses the exact same commands to set up an environment as the virtual machines do.

In this chapter you will learn about:

  • Installing the Hyper-V role

  • Remotely administering Hyper-V Server

  • Backing up Windows Server
