6.4. Financial Justification

Once you have compiled the list of servers that you plan to virtualize, you can start putting together the data on how much you are going to save by moving to a more virtual environment. Every company charges different rates for different components. During your planning, you will need to decide how you are going to determine the costs and savings.

I will mention it again that MAP has the ability to output some of its findings into an XML file that can be imported into an ROI tool found at www.microsoft.com/virtualization/why/roi/default.mspx. Even if this tool does not calculate exactly the same way as your organization requires, it can possibly save you a lot of time building your cost model.
