The same columnar, in-memory OLAP database engine used by Analysis Services Tabular models and Power BI datasets is now built into the Power BI Report Server. This engine is used to render Power BI reports containing imported data (import mode) and DirectQuery connections. Therefore, if import mode Power BI datasets (PBIX files) will be deployed to the report server, especially large import mode files (100 MB+), a significantly greater amount of RAM will be needed on the server hosting the Power BI Report Server instance than typical reporting services deployments.
