Chapter 24. Understanding the Client Access Server

When we went from Exchange Server 2003 to Exchange Server 2007, there were some dramatic changes introduced with the Client Access server role. Now, going into Exchange Server 2010, the Client Access server has been improved to provide additional functionality that enables exciting new scenarios and capabilities.

The Client Access server role now brokers almost all client communications, including Outlook Web App (formerly known as Outlook Web Access), IMAP/POP3, Exchange ActiveSync, and Outlook Anywhere.
