Open Database Connectivity

Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) allows all types of databases to exchange data in a unified way. ADO is the successor of ODBC.

ADO and ODBC for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 allow both reading and writing in the application database as well as reading and writing to other databases. In the following figure, you can see that using open data connectivity protocol, the system can access different kinds of database and thus it can be useful while performing the data exchange or integrating some section of the solution with other system:
