Summary

In this chapter, we have extensively covered all the options available to balance requests to a set of backend servers with special focus on mod_cluster, which is the most advanced (and supported) solution in the scope of Red Hat products. We have learnt how to install it, configure it, and troubleshoot most common issues both as a standalone load balancer and when embedded in the Apache web server. Besides this, you had some exposure to balancing solutions such as mod_proxy, mod_jk, and nginx. In the next chapter we will delve into clustering, covering the JGroups and infinispan subsystems.
