Adding data to a Mapbox account

Mapbox supports the use of your own data. Not only can you style basemap tiles, but you can even add your own data to the tiles to make them more relevant to your customers or users. This can be managed programmatically using the Mapbox Python SDK and the uploads and datasets APIs.

To upload data, you must create a secret API access token. These are created using the same Create a token process detailed earlier, but include secret scopes. Choose the following scopes to allow for dataset and tileset read and write capabilities:

  • DATASETS:WRITE
  • UPLOADS:READ
  • UPLOADS:WRITE
  • TILESETS:READ
  • TILESETS:WRITE
