Script formats have evolved over many decades, and the more you understand the purposes behind the layouts and the formats of scripts, the easier they become to write.

Master Scene (Screenplay) Format

The master scene format has evolved from the earliest days of “talking pictures” and is what media nonprofessionals generally recognize as “screenplay format.” You should select this format whenever audio and video capture is largely simultaneous, such as when you’re shooting scenes with actors speaking dialog. The Delivery Date script used as an example throughout the book is an instance of a screenplay written in the master scene format.
