Customizing with the Navisworks API
An API is a set of specifications that allows users to program and automate existing functions in the program. Navisworks' API is designed to maximize the customization possibilities of the product and minimize the constraints upon using it creatively. Since this is a broad topic and mostly limited to developers, this section will provide a general overview of the API and is not meant to be an exhaustive technical guide.
The API is divided into three versions: .NET, COM, and NWCreate. In addition to the minimum system requirements for Navisworks, programmers will need Navisworks Simulate or Manage to be installed since no form of the API (plug-in or controls) will be supported in Freedom.
