SAN and NAS

One of the most widely-known Cassandra anti-patterns is backing your instances with storage from network attached storage (NAS) or storage area networks (SANs). While reads from disk may be slow, reads from the network are typically slower.

Furthermore, using a SAN or NAS turns all of your disk I/O into network I/O. This can be especially painful when your cluster is deployed over a large geographic region.
