Understanding Database Functions

Do not let the word database frighten you. A database is nothing more than a collection of related information. The telephone book is a simple database that contains name, address, and telephone number information for many people. In database terminology, each persons entry in the book is considered a record and each record is made up of fields. In the telephone book analogy, the persons first name is a field, the persons last name is another field, the street address is another field, and so on.
