2.1. Introduction

Master data present a view into the core shared information asset within the enterprise, and as such, managing the master data asset should be considered a critical component of an enterprise information management strategy. Any initiative that spans the enterprise is bound to require significant amounts of energy for coordination: identifying the key stakeholders, gaining their support, harnessing participant collaboration, gathering requirements, and establishing the roles and responsibilities of the right set of people to make the project successful.
