About the Authors

Richard L. Peterson, MD, works at the intersection of psychology and the markets. He is a co-founder of MarketPsych LLC (with Dr. Murtha), where he trains financial advisors, portfolio managers, traders, and executives in emotion management and intuitive decision skills. He is also Managing Director of MarketPsy Capital LLC, a psychology-based asset-management firm. Additionally he operates MarketPsychAdvisor.com, which offers investors psychological research on individual stocks, ETFs, and markets. Dr. Peterson received cum laude degrees in electrical engineering and Plan II Arts at the University of Texas in 1995. In 2000 he received a cum laude Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He performed post-doctoral neuroeconomics research at Stanford University, and he is Board-certified in psychiatry.

Dr. Peterson has published scientific research in finance, psychology, and neuroscience journals and textbooks. He is the author of the 2007 Wiley title Inside the Investor's Brain, which was praised as "exceptionally well-written" and "outstanding" by Barron's. Dr. Peterson frequently appears in the financial press including NPR, BBC, Bloomberg, and CNBC.

He is an associate editor of the Journal of Behavioral Finance and is on the board of advisors of several organizations including the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) in the experimental and behavioral finance area, the CFA Society of Los Angeles Applied Behavioral Finance Group, ...
